Van Wezel Identity & Wayfinding System—The Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall was in need of a new identity and wayfinding system. The identity was designed first which includes a new logo and type choice. It is a word mark derived from two stage lights shining on the stage that form the capital V and W of Futura. Next, four different sign structures were designed to replace the existing wayfinding system. The sign structures are made by mounting two pieces of lucite to a back-lit sign. The text and graphics are then mounted on the lucite sheets, which are illuminated at night. Structural lettering was typeset and designed to be installed on the building. Finally, a standards manual was made for logo and type specifications, and aid in the manufacturing of the new signage.
