Sam Durant Lecture Poster—This poster was designed for a visiting artist lecture series featuring Sam Durant. Sam Durant is a contemporary artist working out of Southern California. The work he was exhibiting was a comment on the failure of the Modernists’ utopian visions. Durant crudely cut photos of squatters engaging in a variety of hedonistic and taboo behaviours over top of Julius Shulman’s photos of the Case Study Houses located in the Hollywood hills. The poster capitalized on this idea. At first I designed and printed a modernist poster. Then I cut out letters from photos of a variety hedonistic and taboo behaviors for each one of the posters. The letters were crudely taped over some of the typography on the poster.
